So they just released the lineup of artists that are coming to Sauder Concert Hall for the Performing Arts Series. The PAS brings world-class talent to the our small campus of Goshen College. The artists include:

1. Chanticleer - 9/8/07

2. Brubeck Brothers with Taylor Eigsti - 10/12/07

3. Sweet Honey in the Rock - 11/17/07

4. John McCutcheon and Carrie Newcomer - 2/8/08

5. Canadian Brass - 3/29/08

6. Swingle Singers - 4/18/08

7. The Smothers Brothers - 1/26/08

So, pretty much, everyone around here is excited. There's a lot of big talent coming to our little campus. If you don't know much about some of the groups, there's more information at www.gcmusiccenter.org/

In other news, the Relief Sale is this weekend, and I'll be home for the Saturday part. We should get together.

Home concert [Mar. 4th, 2007|08:50 am]

[Current Location |Goshen, IN]

Well, I'm back in Goshen, with a mild sunburn and a sore throat to show for this amazing tour. Oh, and a rock from the Pacific Ocean. And a plastic sword from Seattle. Long story.

Anyways, tonight is our home concert to finish off the tour. It starts at 7:30 at the church-chapel. If you haven't been reading the college website, the concert tonight will be dedicated to the Bluffton baseball team, and the normal offering will be sent to a fund set up for the families and men involved in this tragic accident.

Early Friday, a charter bus carrying the Bluffton University baseball team drove over an overpass and fell, killing 4 players, the bus driver, and his wife. All others aboard were hurt. As of Saturday morning, eight players remained in the hospital. Of those, two were in critical condition and one in serious condition.

Bluffton University is a Mennonite sister school to Goshen. The school has a little over 1100 students, so you can imagine what they are feeling right now. A few of my friends here knew people that were killed or hurt, and there are strong ties between our two schools. Prayers for the families and students at Bluffton are much needed right now.

Spring Break baby! [Feb. 28th, 2007|11:13 pm]

So, yeah, we're on the west coast. WWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Anyways, it's been an amazing trip so far. I'm in Pasadena, CA right now. Stars are out, a nice big moon, and it's WARM!! Well, ok, warmer then home right now. But I'll take what I can get. And I wore SANDELS today! It's been so long.

We're selling Men's Chorus CD's that were recorded a year ago. Our director made us the deal that if we broke even with the CD's (selling about 2/3 boxes of them) by the end of the trip, we could work on recording one of our own. Tonight we finished off our 3rd box (Each box has ~150 CD's)!! We're having another box of albums overnighted to the church we're singing at tomorrow night so that we have some to sell/gift away. I'm pretty proud of this because I'm on the CD crew, greeting people after the concert and selling CD's.

Another highlight of the trip was yesterday in San Fransico. We had the amazing opportunity to sing a short concert in Grace Cathedral. This was probably the most moving concert, and what I would have given to sit in the audience to have heard it. We sang Audoramus Te and Ave Maria, both of which were pretty much written to be sung in cathedrals like this. When the organ prelude was done (it was mesmorizing), I counted the seconds of reverberation out to over 6 seconds, and then it was only because someone started talking. Incredible.

We have a tour blog going with really cool pictures at www.goshen.edu/blog/menschorus07

Anyways, we finish our tour with two concerts, one in Samburg, IL on Saturday evening, and at College Mennonite Church in Goshen, IN on Sunday. It's free admission, and starts at 7:30 I believe. Email me if you're thinking about coming to either. Love you all!

Go in peace.

A PRAYER FOR THE BEARS

Our Papa

Who art a bear,

Hallowed be thy fame,

Thy championship come,

Thy play be run,

At home as as it is away,

Give us this day our Sunday win,

And forgive us our turnovers,

Though we pounce on those who turnover against us,

And lead us not into fourth and long,

But deliver us from Krenzel.

IN THE NAME OF DITKA

BUTKUS,

AND THE HOLY PAYTON.

AS IT WAS IN 1985,

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMEN

“Tick-tock goes the clock of God’s long now. How will we respond in 2007? By pushing the snooze button? Or waking up to a whole new day? The exquisite risk and resolve is ours.”

Quoted from the convocation on Wednesday, given by James Brenneman, Goshen College President.

A New Christmas Break Thinking [Jan. 2nd, 2007|01:12 am]

[Current Music |Jars of Clay]

We are so beautiful when we sleep
Hearts of gold and eyes so deep, deep, deep
But love won't cure the chaos
And hope won't hide the loss
And peace is not the heroine that shouts above the cause
And love is wild for reasons
And hope though short in sight
Might be the only thing that wakes you by surprise
Surprise, surprise

So I enjoy these lyrics. They're from a Jars of Clay song, titled "Surprise."

Revenge of the Christmas Break Thinking [Dec. 22nd, 2006|04:56 pm]
grant
[Current Location |Mika's in Eureka, IL]
[Current Mood |rejuvenatedrejuvenated]
[Current Music |Toby Mac]

Coffee shops are usually good places to be, but two take the award for best places ever, according to me. One is the Electric Brew in Goshen, IN, and the other would be where I'm sitting, Mika's in Eureka.

Coffee is good stuff, I tell you what.
It is just about the best comfort drink ever.
I missed a good Mocha and a comfortable atmosphere.

It's also good to see old friends. So I've seen and talked to Heather Rocke, Kelsey Sauder, Cassie Martin, and Rachel Schnider. The past few years have shown me just how much I enjoy having conversations with people. I usually end up the last one to leave youth groups, parties, or other social gatherings because I talk to people so much. It's just much more enjoyable to have a real conversation, not just a casual Hi, how are you, I'm good, type of thing.

Next semester's going to be a challenge. I have to learn how to get homework done early, study more, and do papers way before they're due. Doesn't sound to hard, but I know me, and I know how I can put off anything if it means getting to be around people. It's no one's fault but my own. I need to step up and do the right thing, because, well, it's my last shot at doing the right thing...

Why do I make things more complicated then they need to be? I tend to do it with everything in my life, and I really dislike it about myself. I need to keep my spirit up, though, because no one ever said that changing your life for the better would be an easy, fun, or enjoyable process. However, it needs to be done. I can't put it off anymore, because it's crunch time now. This next semester is the nighttime, and my life's paper is due tomorrow. Time to get it done.
